Make Us One

What is Unity and What is not Unity?

Mclean Faw: Unity in the Body is precious to Jesus Christ. He prayed for it. He died for it. He wants us to cherish it, guard it, keep it, and grow in it so, the world may believe that Jesus Christ is Lord.

John 17:21 (NKJV) That they all may be one; as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

Fight for Unity in Christ

Eyes fixed on Jesus!

Heb. 12:1b-2a (NIV) And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Ps. 16:8 (NIV) I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Ps. 123:2 (NKJV) Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters,
As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the Lord our God,
Until He has mercy on us.

Eph 4:15-16 (NKJV) but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Fight for Unity in humility

Go low!

Ps. 145:8 (NKJV) The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.

Col. 3:13 (NLT) Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Eph. 4:2 (NLT) Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

Gal. 2:20 (NIV) I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Eph.4:3 (KJV) Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Endeavor- make every effort, do everything you can, be zealous.

(NLT) make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit.

Fight for Unity in mission and vision

We see where we are going together!

Psalm 133 (NKJV) Behold, how good and how pleasant it is
For brethren to dwell together in unity!

It is like the precious oil upon the head,
Running down on the beard,
The beard of Aaron,
Running down on the edge of his garments.
It is like the dew of Hermon,
Descending upon the mountains of Zion;
For there the Lord commanded the blessing—
Life forevermore.

1 Cor. 12:14 (NLT) Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part.

1 Cor. 12:18 (NLT) But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.

1 Cor. 12:27 (NLT) All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

Questions for discussion and reflection:

1.      Does unity sound easy to you?  Why or why not?

2.      Can you think of a time when you were in unity with a group of people?  If yes share about it and how long it lasted?

3.      What are you currently doing that is resistant to or hindering unity in the body at Joy?

4.      What can you do to help unity increase and grow at Joy?

5.      How can you connect more deeply to extend the reach of the anointing?
