BELIEVING FOR A DOUBLE PORTION

2 Kings 2:8 (NKJV) - Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water; and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

2 Kings 2:9 (NKJV) - And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you before I am taken away from you?” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”

2 Kings 2:10 (NKJV) - So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”

2 Kings 2:11 (NKJV) - Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

2 Kings 2:12 (NKJV) - And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So, he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces.

2 Kings 2:13 (NKJV) - He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.

2 Kings 2:14 (NKJV) - Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said,” Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.

BELIEVE GOD FOR A DOUBLE PORTION OF HIS ANOINTING

ASK BOLDLY

2 Kings 2:9a (NKJV) – And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?”

John 14:13 (NKJV) – And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 15:7 (NKJV) – If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

John 16:24 (NKJV) – Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

James 4:2b-3 (NKJV) - Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Genesis 32:26b (NKJV) – But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”

1 Kings 18:36 (NKJV) - And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, “Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word.”

Mark 10:51 (NKJV) – So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight!”

Mark 10:52 (NKJV) – Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.”  And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

BELIEVE DEEPLY

2 Kings 2:9b (NKJV) - Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.”

The spirit of Elijah is the power of the Holy Spirit upon his life that enabled him to move in the miraculous.

The double portion was the right of the first born in a family to receive.

Romans 8:29b (NKJV) – that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.

We can receive His anointing because of the blood of Jesus Christ washing us clean.

2 Kings 2:11b (NKJV) – And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

2 Kings 2:13a (NKJV) – He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him.

Acts 27:25 (NKJV) – Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.”

I believe God that it will be just as it was told me!

OBEY EXPECTANTLY

2 Kings 2:10 (NKJV) – So he said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.

2 Kings 2:14 (NKJV) Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?”  And when he also struck the water, it was divided this way and that: and Elisha crossed over.

The mantle is a picture of authority.

Believers are called to carry the mantle of Jesus Christ:

Luke 10:19 (NKJV) – Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Believers are called to walk in the anointing power of Jesus Christ.

Acts 1:8 (NKJV) – But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Three practical steps of obedience in preparation for the double portion:

Get Clean

1 John 1:7 (NKJV) – But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Get Empty

Ephesians 4:31-32 (NKJV) - Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Get Hungry

Matthew 5:6 (NKJV) – Blessed are those who hunger and third for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
