HEALING THROUGH THE WORD
1. Scripture Supports Healing Through the Word
Psalm 107:20 (ESV) – “He sent out His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction.”
In the book of Isaiah, it was prophesied of Jesus:
Isaiah 53:1-2 (ESV) – “Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For He grew up before Him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; He had no form or majesty that we should look at Him, and no beauty that we should desire Him.”
Isaiah 53:3-4 (ESV) – “He was despised and rejected by men; a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.”
Isaiah 53:5 (ESV) – “But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.”
When we read through the Gospel accounts, we see this heavy emphasis on Jesus bringing healing to people that were suffering with all kinds of sicknesses.
Matthew 8:16 (ESV) – “That evening they brought to Him many who were oppressed by demons, and He cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.”
Mark 5:24-26 (ESV) – “And He went with him. And a great crowd followed Him and thronged about Him. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse.”
Mark 5:27-29 (ESV) – “She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, ‘If I touch even His garments, I will be made well.’ And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.”
Mark 5:30-31 (ESV) – “And Jesus, perceiving in Himself that power had gone out from Him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, ’Who touched my garments?’ And His disciples said to Him, ‘You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’
Mark 5:32-34 (ESV) – “And He looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, ’Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your disease.’”
Luke 4:38-39 (ESV) – “And He arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to Him on her behalf. And He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.”
Luke 4:40-41 (ESV) – “Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him, and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them. And demons also came out of many, crying, ‘You are the Son of God!’ But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that He was the Christ.”
John 4:46-47 (ESV) – “So He came again to Cana in Galilee, where He had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to Him and asked Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
John 4:48-50 (ESV) – “So Jesus said to him, ‘Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.’ The official said to Him, ‘Sir, come down before my child dies.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your son will live.’ The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.”
John 4:51-52 (ESV) – “As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, ‘Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.’”
John 4:53-54 (ESV) – “The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, ‘Your son will live.’ And he himself believed, and all his household. This was now the second sign that Jesus did when He had come from Judea to Galilee.”
2. How to Receive Healing from the Word
Proverbs 4:20–23 (ESV) – “My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
3. Declaration of Faith for Healing
1 Peter 2:24 (ESV) – “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.”
Declaration:
Lord Jesus, I thank You for bearing my sins in Your own body on the tree. That we having died to sins, might live for righteousness, for by Your wounds we have been healed.
