THE AUTHORITY OF EVERY BELIEVER

Luke 10:17 – Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, ‘Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.’

Luke 10:18 – And He said to them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’

Luke 10:19 – Behold, I give you the authority to trample upon snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Luke 10:20 – Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.

Every believer has been given authority over the powers of darkness in Jesus’ Name.

1. Every believer has been given authority

Mark 16:17 – And these signs shall follow those who believe: in My Name they will cast out demons.

These signs follow believers; every believer can cast out demons.

Ekballo – throw out, cast out, evict

2. Every believer has authority in Jesus’ Name

We have received a delegated authority in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Exousia – authority or right to act, delegated authority

Exousia is a God-given ‘power of attorney’ in the Name of Jesus.

Power of Attorney gives us the right to act on behalf of someone else.

We are given the right/authority, to act on Jesus’ behalf.

We represent Jesus Christ in the earth.

Luke 9:1 – Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.

Dunamis – power, miracle-working power

Every believer can be filled with dunamis (miracle power) and walk in exousia (authority).

3. We have a delegated authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions.

Trample – tread upon

Ephesians 1:22 – And He put all things under His feet.

Joshua 10:24 – Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings.

Joshua 10:25 – Then Joshua said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; be strong and of good courage, for thus the Lord will do to all your enemies against whom you fight.’

4. How do we walk in that authority?

We believe it.

We receive it.

We step out in it.

Cleansing Stream Model – Repent, Renounce, Break, Bless

5. We keep our focus on Jesus Christ and the advancement of the Gospel.

We engage in spiritual warfare so people can hear the Gospel, come to Christ, and grow in Christ.

Luke 10:20 – Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.

We want to talk more about Jesus and less about the enemy.

Our greatest cause of rejoicing is that our names are written in heaven. – Dr. French Arrington

Luke 10:21 – In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, ‘I thank you Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.’
