BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING
Hebrews 7:1-2: For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham
returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all.
Melchizedek - King of Righteousness King of Salem – King of Peace
Melchizedek is an Old Testament picture of Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 7:25 – Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him,
since He always lives to make intercession for them
Ephesians 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every
spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
Hebrews 7:2 – To whom Abraham gave a tenth part of all
Genesis 14:19-20: And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of
heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand.
Genesis 14:20b – And he gave him a tithe of all.
Genesis 28:22 – And of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You.
Matthew 23:23 – Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and
cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you
ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
1. PUT GOD FIRST IN OUR GIVING
Hebrews 7:4 – Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth
of the spoils.
Tithe = one tenth
The Biblical tithe is not just one tenth, but the first tenth given to God.
Spoils – The top of the heap, the choicest spoils of war.
Proverbs 3:9-10: Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so
your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
1 Kings 17:13 – And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small
cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son.”
1 Kings 17:15 – So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her
household ate for many days.
Matthew 6:33 – But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be
added to you.
2. WORSHIP GOD IN OUR GIVING
Tithing is an act of worship.
1 Chronicles 29:11 – Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, and the glory, the victory and the
majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours.
1 Chronicles 29:14b – For all this comes from You and of Your own we have given You.
Malachi 3:10 – Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me
now in this, says the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you
such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.
We are blessed to be a blessing!

Galatians 3:13-14: Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law...... that the blessing of Abraham
might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus.
Genesis 24:1 – And the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.
3. REMEMBER THE CROSS IN OUR GIVING
Exodus 13:14 – So it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, “What is this? That you
shall say to him, by strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.”
Genesis 14:18 – The Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.
Dr. David Jeremiah – But God is infinite. He doesn’t work in pie charts. He works in rivers. Rivers of
blessing. He never runs out.
We are called to be conduits of His grace
