Then she called the Name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees.
Elohim – the Big God, the Creator God, the Three-in-One God
El Roi – The God Who Sees Me
Genesis 16:13b (NLT)
She said, “You are the God who sees me.” …
1. He Sees Our Need, Our Hurt, and Our Pain
Genesis 16:7a (NKJV)
Now the Angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness.
Exodus 3:7b-8a
I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows, so I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

2. He Sees Our Disobedience, Our Selfishness, and Our Sinfulness

And when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress became despised in her eyes.

3. He Sees Our Potential in Him
Genesis 16:11a
Behold, you are with child, and you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael.
Genesis 17:20
And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
4. Because He Sees Us, We Can See Others
Genesis 16:10-11 (NIV)
The angel added, “I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” The angel of the Lord also said to her: “You are now pregnant and you will give birth to a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery.”
Genesis 16:13
She gave this Name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”

Our God is El Roi – The God Who Sees Me.
A. Is there pain, hurt, and a sense of being wounded in our lives? Let Him see it and heal it.
B. Is there unconfessed sin, disobedience, and selfishness in our lives? As we confess, He will forgive.
C. Is there a sense of failure and hopelessness? Let Him release vision and destiny.
D. Is there a lack of care, love, or concern for the invaluable people around you? Let Him give you His insight into the immense value and destiny of those around you!
