PRINCIPLES OF KINGDOM LIVING PT. 2
Matthew 6:19-34
1. Laying Up Treasures
Matthew 6:19 – “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:20 – “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:21 – “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
1 Timothy 6:17 – “Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the Living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.”
1 Timothy 6:18 – “Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,”
1 Timothy 6:19 – “Storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.”
2. Lamp of the Body
Matthew 6:22 – “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.”
Matthew 6:23 – “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
Matthew 6:22 (MSG) – “Your eyes are windows into your body. If you open your eyes wide in wonder and belief, your body fills up with light.”
Matthew 6:23 (MSG) – “If you live squinty-eyed in greed and distrust, your body is a musty cellar. If you pull the blinds on your windows, what a dark life you will have!”
3. God and Riches
Matthew 6:24 – “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Matthew 6:24 (MSG) – “You can't worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you'll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can't worship God and money both.”
4. Do Not Worry
Matthew 6:25 – “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
Matthew 6:26 – “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
Matthew 6:27 – “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?”
Matthew 6:28 – “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,”
Matthew 6:29 – “And yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
Matthew 6:30 – “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”
Matthew 6:31 – “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’”
Matthew 6:32 – “For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”
1 Peter 5:7 (NLT) – “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”
Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
5. Seek the Kingdom of God
Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew 6:34 – “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Psalm 9:10 – “And those who know Your Name will put their trust in You; for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.”
Hebrews 11:6 (NASB) – “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him.”
