SEXUAL PURITY
1. How Far is Too Far?
A. Sex with Impunity
B. Downward Spiral of Sexual Contact
C. Do Not Arouse Desires that Cannot be Righteously Fulfilled
D. Marital vs. Extramarital Sex
James 1:13-15 (NKJV) – “Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’, for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”
2. God’s Will & Command: Do Not Defraud Your Brother
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 (NKJV) – “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore, he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.”
Only one person should have the right to sexual intimacy with you: your spouse!
When you have sex with someone who might marry someone else later, you have perpetrated fraud on their husband or wife.
Don’t take what rightly belongs to another!
3. God Has a Better Way
Acts 3:19-21 (NLT) – “Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshing will come from the presence of the Lord, and He will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. For He must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through His holy prophets.”
Confessing one’s sins and starting fresh is the only way to ensure that you are fully right with God and on the right track to living a holy life and having loyal, godly relationships.
4. Generational Curses
Exodus 34:6-7 (NLT) – “The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, ‘Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected – even children in the third and fourth generation.”
“It is up to you to break the cycle of sin. Without resolve, confession, and repentance, the curse will continue generations on end.”
