EVERY BELIEVER CAN BE FREE FROM A SPIRIT OF FEAR
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
What is a spirit of fear?
For God has not given us a spirit of fear (intimidation).
A spirit of fear is a spirit that seeks to intimidate you.
1 Kings 19:2 – “Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ‘So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.’
A spirit of fear is in direct contrast to the Holy Spirit. It seeks to rob you of power, love, and sound mindedness.
A spirit of fear seeks to rob you of power
Acts 1:8 – “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
A spirit of fear seeks to rob you of love. Love for God, love for others, and love for yourself.
A spirit if fear seeks to rob you of sound thinking.
How do we overcome a spirit of fear?
1. Fear God
Proverbs 9:10 –“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Luke 12:5 – “But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!”
Isaiah 8:13 – “The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.”
What does it mean to fear the Lord?
2. Go back to what you know
Fear abides and thrives in the realm of the unknown.
What do we know?
3. Bring your fear to the light
1 John 1:7 – “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Ephesians 5:13 – “But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.”
