WALKING BY FAITH THROUGH THE STORMS OF LIFE
Mark 4:35 – “On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’”
Mark 4:37 – “And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so it was already filling.”
Storms of life come.
Storms often come suddenly.
What is the plan of the enemy when storms come?
John 10:10 – “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.”
The enemy wants to bring discouragement, hopelessness, and hold back God’s destiny for our lives.
Mark 4:38 – “But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. They woke Him and said to Him, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’”
The enemy always wants us to doubt the goodness of God and the promises of God.
What is the heart of the Father in the midst of the storms of life?
1 John 5:4 – “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.”
The Holy Spirit wants to help us walk by faith through the storms of life.
Mark 4:39 – “Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
Mark 4:40 – “But He said to them, ‘Why are you so fearful? How is it you have no faith?’”
How does the Holy Spirit help us walk by faith through the storms of Life?
1. REMEMBER HIS PRESENCE
We are not alone in the storms of life.
Jesus is in the boat with us!
Mark 4:36 – “And they took Him along in the boat as He was.”
How do we know Jesus is with us?
He promises us in His Word!
Matthew 28:20b – “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
2. RECEIVE HIS PROMISES
Mark 4:35b – “Let us cross over to the other side.”
Jesus had given them His Word.
We want to receive His Word in the midst of the storm.
Romans 10:17 – “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Faith comes!
Faith comes as we hear the word of God!
Logos – the entirety of Scripture
Rhema – the particular Scripture highlighted to us by the Holy Spirit
Rhema – God’s personal Word to us from the written Word
How do we get a Rhema word? It comes from the Holy Spirit as we read the Bible.
Psalm 107:20 – “He sent His Word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.”
How do we hear God’s Word?
Proverbs 4:20-22 – “My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart. For they will bring life to those who find them and healing to their whole body.”
We want to prayerfully read and meditate on the Word of God.
Take God’s Word like medicine: three times a day.
3. RELEASE THE POWER OF THE WORD
We release the power of the Word when we declare His Word with our mouth.
Faith speaks what the heart has received and believed.
2 Corinthians 4:13 – “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, I believed and therefore I spoke, we also believe and therefore speak.”
Jesus rose up in the boat and spoke the Word: Peace be still!
We want to rise up and speak the Word that has been spoken into our hearts.
Philippians 4:19 – “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
