Matthew 5:17 – “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.”
Matthew 5:18 – “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.”
What are some of the tools the enemy uses to divide families, especially the family of God?
The enemy wants to sow doubt and confusion in our minds and divide us through Scripture.
How do born again believers relate to the Old Testament?
What does it mean to be living under the new Covenant, the Covenant of Grace?
2 Timothy 3:16 – “All Scripture is inspired by God”
The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed.
The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.
Bishop Ryle – “The O.T. is the Gospel in the bud. The N.T. is the Gospel in full flower.”

Law and the Prophets refers to the Old Testament.
Destroy – Demolish, throw down, put an end, pull down a house or tent
Fulfill – Fill, complete, draw out in its fullness
The Old Testament points to Jesus Christ.
Luke 24:44 – “Then He said to them, ‘These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.’”
Luke 24:45 – “Then He opened their understanding that they might comprehend the Scriptures.”
How did Jesus fulfill the Law and the Prophets?
Jesus Fulfilled the Need for Sacrifice
Every animal sacrifice, every offering, the Tabernacle, the Temple, all point to Jesus Christ.
Father God was preparing us for the ultimate sacrifice of His Son.
John 1:29 – “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The
Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”
What happened inside the temple when Jesus died?
Mark 15:38 – “Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”
Hebrews 9:12 – “Not with blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.”
Jesus Fulfilled Messianic Prophecy
What were some of the prophecies of His first Coming?
The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem
Micah 5:2 – “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come to Me the One to be the ruler of Israel.”
The Messiah would be born of a virgin
Isaiah 7:14 – “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall His Name Immanuel.”
The Messiah would be crucified upon the cross
Psalm 22:16 – “They pierced My hands and My feet.”
Psalm 22:18 – “They divided My garments among them and for My clothing they cast lots.”
Daniel 9:26 – “And after sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself.”
The Messiah will be resurrected from the dead.
Psalm 16:10 – “For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.”
Jesus Fulfilled the Moral Law and became our Righteousness
Jesus is Our Righteousness.
Jeremiah 23:6 – “THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS”
Matthew 5:20 points to a righteousness of the heart.
Matthew 5:20 – “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”
Our righteousness is as filthy rags before the Lord.
Isaiah 64:6 – “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.”
Ezekiel 36:26 – “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 – “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
