Exodus 17:1 – There was no water for the people to drink.

Exodus 17:2 – Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water that we may drink.”

Contended – Debate, quarrel, strive

Exodus 17:3 – And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?

John 4:13 – Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again.

John 4:14 – Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.

How do we discover and drink of the Living Water of the Holy Spirit?

 

1.      TURN AWAY FROM THE EMPTY WELLS OF THE WORLD

Jeremiah 2:13 – For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of Living Waters, and hewn for themselves cisterns – broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Galatians 5:1 – Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.

 

2.      COME TO THE ROCK OF JESUS CHRIST

Exodus 17:5 – And the Lord said to Moses, “Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go.

Exodus 17:6 – Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.

1 Corinthians 10:2-3: - All were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food.

1 Corinthians 10:4 – And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.

Psalm 40:2 – He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a Rock.

Matthew 7:25 – And the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Strike the rock – Beat, wound, punish, kill

John 19:34 – But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

 

3.      DRINK FROM THE LIVING WATER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

John 7:37 – If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.

John 7:38 – He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water

Psalm 23:5 – You anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over.

Jesus is alive! Jesus is here! He is offering us Living Water!

3.      How has Jesus been a rock for you and your family in the storms of life?

4.      Have you been filled to overflowing with the Living Water of the Holy Spirit? If not, would you like to be?
