JESUS IS KING AND LORD

Revelation 19:16 (NKJV)And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

The Greek word for “king” here is “basileus”.

Basileus: a king (sovereign); often referring to Christ who is "the King of kings", i.e. the King over the Kingdom of the heavens (God).

As the King, Jesus Christ has unqualified jurisdiction over all creation – also being God the Creator.

A king must have a kingdom.

The attributes of a king

What makes our King different?

Deuteronomy 10:17 (NLT)For the LORD your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed.

He is Omnipotent – having unlimited power; able to do anything.

He is the most powerful. In fact, He is power. He does not gain or lose power.

He is Omnipresent – present everywhere at the same time.

There is no place where He is not.

He is Omniscient – knowing everything, having infinite awareness, understanding, and insight.

He is Immutable – not capable of or susceptible to change.

Malachi 3:6For I am the Lord, I do not change.

He is Eternal – eternal past, present, and future.

What should our response be towards the King of kings?

1. We are to worship.

When you worship Him, the environment shifts.

2. We are to serve Him.

When you serve Him, others are blessed.

3. We are to walk with Him.

When you walk with Him, you become like Him.

Jesus is the Lord of lords.

Revelation 1:9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus.

Revelation 1:10-11 On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, which said: ‘Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.’

Revelation 1:12-13 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned, I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.

Revelation 1:14-15 – The hair on His head was white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of rushing waters.

Revelation 1:16-17In His right hand He held seven stars, and coming out of His mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though dead. Then He placed His right hand on me and said: ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.’

Revelation 1:18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

The Oxford Dictionary defines ‘Lord’ as: someone or something having power, authority, or influence, a master or ruler.

John 13:13You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.

Matthew 28:16-17Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.  When they saw Him, they worshipped Him; but some doubted.

Matthew 28:18-20Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’

Acts 10:36You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

Colossians 2:8-9 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

Colossians 2:10For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.

Ephesians 1:21-23Far above all rule and authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way.

Romans 10:8-9But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:10-11 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.’

Romans 10:12-13 – For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

1 Corinthians 12:3 – Therefore I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, ‘Jesus is cursed’, and no one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord’, except by the Holy Spirit.

When we say that Jesus is our Lord, what does that mean?

We are saying that the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ has our permission to influence and empower our lives to bring Him glory.

The Lord wants to share/delegate His power with/to us.

The Lord wants to see the fullness of His Kingdom lived out through our unique lives.

The Lord wants to see that which was dead brought back to life.

The Lord wants us to get a good understanding of grace and the consequence of sin.

The Lord wants us to declare His Lordship to all, not as a form of bondage but as absolute freedom from sin.
