EVERY BELIEVER – MAKING DISCIPLES: PART TWO

One of the traits of a disciple is that disciples make disciples.

Matthew 28:19 – Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.

We want to see people come to Jesus.

We also want to see people grow in Jesus and become mature disciples.

Pastor Toney Evans on discipleship – Loving a person to Jesus until they can love another person to Jesus.

How do we make disciples?

Jesus is our model for discipleship making.

 We model:

1.      How to pray

·      Matthew 6:9– The Lord’s Prayer “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father who in heaven, Hallowed be your name.”

·      Matthew 26:41 – Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

·       John 6:63- The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life

·      James 5:16- pray for one another that you may be healed

·      Ephesians 6:18-20 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for the saints and for me that utterance may be given to me that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains

2.     How-to walk-in authority

Luke 10:19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

·      Within our personal life (resist the devil)

·      In our public life

ACTIVATION

What are the key components of discipleship?

  1. Committed

Disciples are committed to being discipled.

Luke 14:27 – And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

Luke 14:28 – For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.

2.     Humble

All of us want to be teachable. We are all learners.

James 4:6 – God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.

3.     Vulnerable

We want to be transparent and open.

Psalm 51:6 – Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts.

4.     Accountable

Being accountable to another believer helps us grow.

Proverbs 27:17 – As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
