I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE
John 6:35(NLT) – Jesus replied, “I am the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to Me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty again.
Jesus is the Bread of Life – Literally: the bread that gives life.
Life – Zoe: spiritual life, eternal life, God’s life
Real Life is only found in Jesus Christ.
Life without Jesus is like a doughnut, there’s a hole in the middle of your heart.
There is a God-shaped hole in every human heart that only Jesus can fill.
John 6:49 – Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
John 6:51 – I am the Living Bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever.
We want to come to Jesus, believe in Him, receive Him, and then live in Him, feed on Him, be fed by Him.
John 6:57 – So He who feeds on Me will live because of Me.
How do we continue to grow in Him, feed on Him and be fed by Him?
EAT THE WORD
John 6:27 – Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life.
Jeremiah 15:16 – When I discovered Your Words I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear Your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.
Psalm 119:103 – How sweet your Words taste, they are sweeter than honey.
Matthew 4:4 – But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
For John, the spiritual life is not simply a life of confession and obedience, but a life of encounter. (NIV Commentary)
SHARE THE WORD IN COMMUNITY
Manna came to the children of Israel as they journeyed together.
John 6:31 – After all, our ancestors ate manna while they journeyed through the wilderness.
John 6:32 – My Father gives you the true Bread from heaven.
1 Corinthians 10:17 – For we, though many, are one bread and one body, for we all partake of that one bread.
Jesus is the One Bread that we all feed from.
Jesus often feeds us through each other.
We want to share the Bread of Life with one another.
SHARE THE WORD IN THE WORLD
Matthew 14:19b-20(NLT) – The He gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
The disciples shared the food and each had a basket left over. What are you distributing?
We are called to share the Bread of Life, not just partake of it.
Matthew 6:11 – Give us this day our daily bread.
John 6:35 – And Jesus said to them, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

Why, deep down, do you think so many people feel hopeless, empty, or like there is a hole in their heart?
What does Jesus tell us to eat to fill this void?
How do we eat the Bread of Life?
Have you ever encountered God or His truth through the community of faith (friends or family)?
