Who You Say I Am Pt.4
BELOVED SONS AND DAUGHTERS
Matthew 3:17 – And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
James Robison discovered he had a Heavenly Father who loved him and accepted him.
When Jesus came up from the waters of baptism, the voice of the Father declared over Him, “This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Jesus was not baptized because there was any sin in His life. He was without sin. Hebrews 4:15
Jesus was baptized to identify with sinful humanity, and to model the pathway of righteousness.
Matthew 3:15 -Permit it to be so now for thus it is fitting to fulfill all righteousness.
Baptism is a step every believer is called to take.
Father God spoke His approval over Jesus before His ministry began.
Ministry flows out of identity.
We are not ministering in order to earn more of His love and acceptance, but because we already know we are accepted and loveable in His sight.
We are beloved sons and daughters of the Most High God. As we take the step of baptism, we declare to the world, our past is buried with Christ, we are resurrected with Christ, we are sons and daughters.
Jesus identified with us, now as believers we identify with Him. What is true for Him is true of us.
1. WE WERE CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST
Romans 6:6 – Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him.
Romans 6:11 – Reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me.
2. WE WERE BURIED WITH CHRIST
Romans 6:4 – Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death.
Colossians 2:12 – buried with Him in baptism
Our old life is buried with Christ. Our past is buried with Christ.
Shame and guilt and regret are buried in the waters of baptism.
3. WE ARE RESURRECTED WITH CHRIST
Romans 6:4 – Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Jesus Christ is alive! He is risen from the dead and we are alive in Him!
4. WE ARE SEATED IN HEAVENLY PLACES IN CHRIST
Ephesians 2:4 – But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
Ephesians 2:5 – even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
Ephesians 2:6 – and raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
We are seated in Christ, at the Father’s right hand, even now.
5. LIVE AS BELOVED SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE KING
a. Live Forgiven
1 John 1:7 – But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin
b. Live Free
Romans 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
c. Live Full
Matthew 3:16 – And behold the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
d. Live Focused
Remember who we are! Knowing our identity enables us to walk in God – given authority.
Luke 10:19 – Behold I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
