ELOHIM

Where is the first reference to Elohim in the Scriptures?

Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

“If a person really believes Genesis 1:1, he will not find it difficult to believe anything else recorded in the Bible.” – Dr. Henry Morris

Genesis 1:1 – The Name for God is Elohim – the mighty God, the majestic God, the Creator God.

Why is it important to see God as our Creator?

“Genesis 1:1 refutes atheism, pantheism, polytheism, materialism, humanism, and evolutionism.” – Dr. Henry Morris

Atheistic Evolutionary Humanism is the view of many in our culture.

Romans 1:20a

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made.

1. Our God is a Big God

Jeremiah 32:17

Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.

Psalm 121:2

My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

2. Our God is a Majestic God

Psalm 8:1a (KJV)

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth.

Isaiah 6:3b

The whole earth is full of His glory.

Psalm 19:1 (NKJV)

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.

Colossians 1:16b

All things were created through Him and for Him.

3. Our God is the Creator God

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Created – bara – fashioned, formed, sculpted

“All men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.” – Declaration of Independence

We are created in the image of God. (Genesis 1:26 – We too are creative.)

Hebrews 11:3 (NLT)

By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

Only God can make something out of nothing.

4. Our God is the Three-in-One God

Elohim – the plural form yet refers to the One God, uni-plural

We believe in one God – Three Persons: The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit

Genesis 1:26

Let Us make man in Our image.

Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

“The universe is a tri-universe: space, time, and matter. (Genesis 1:1)” – Dr. Henry Morris

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning [time] God created the heavens [space] and the earth [matter].

People are a tri-unity: spirit, soul, and body. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)

Final Thoughts:

A. I am Not an Accident

Psalm 139:13 (NIV)

For You created my inmost being, You knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 139:14a

I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

B. I Have a Divine Purpose & Destiny

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

C. I Can Know the God who Made Me

John 17:3

And this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.
