HOW TO MINISTER FREEDOM TO OTHERS

What do we do when someone comes to us in desperation and wants to be set free from oppressive spirits?

How do we minister freedom to others in Jesus’ Name?

1. Remember Who You Are in Christ

A. We are called to do this.

Mark 16:17a“And these signs shall follow those who believe; in My Name they will cast out demons.”

B. We are anointed to do this.

Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”

C. We have been given authority to do this.

Luke 10:19“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

Philippians 2:9“Therefore God has highly exalted Him and given Him the Name which is above every name.”

D. We are being equipped to do this.

Ephesians 4:12a“For the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry.”

Every believer is a minister of Jesus Christ.

E. We are protected as we do this.

Psalm 91:11“For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.”

F. We have angelic protection and assistance.

Psalm 34:7“The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.”

Hebrews 1:14“Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”

2. Be Prepared to Minister Freedom

A. Take time to fast and pray whenever possible.

Matthew 17:21“However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

B. Spend time feeding on the Word of God.

John 6:63“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”

C. Get your marching orders from the Lord.

Joshua 1:8“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

D. Spend time in worship and in praying in the Spirit.

Jude 20“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

E. Put on the whole armor of God.

Ephesians 6:11“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

We enter into battle intending to win.

F. Make sure we are clean before God, consecrated, and not walking in offense.

G. Invite one or two other believers to minister with us.

Leviticus 26:8“Five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight; your enemies shall fall by the sword before you.”

3. Engage in Ministry

A. Be led by the Spirit, and confident in Him.

Romans 8:14“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”

B. Engage in dual listening: listen to their story, but also be listening to the Holy Spirit.

James 1:19“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear; slow to speak, slow to wrath.”

C. Invite the person to whom we are ministering, to repent of any open doors, rebellion, or disobedience, and reaffirm their faith in Jesus Christ.

D. Invite them to forgive all those who have hurt them, betrayed them, wounded them, or offended them.

Mark 11:25“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive your trespasses.”

E. Identify the spirits that are at work.

F. Lead the person to whom we are ministering to repent of giving place to that spirit, lead them to renounce that spirit, break the power of that spirit, and command it to be gone; pray for the Holy Spirit to fill that area with His presence and His character.

4. Follow Up

A. Encourage them to spend time in the Word, renewing their minds.

Romans 12:2a“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

B. Encourage them to grow in their identity in Christ based on Ephesians chapters one and two.

C. Help them recognize the lies of the enemy. Be open to allowing the Holy Spirit to give a prophetic word or a prophetic picture through us.

D. Follow through with a phone call to see how they are doing.

E. Encourage them to be an active part of the community of faith.

Proverbs 18:1“A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; he rages against all wise judgment.”
