08.14.22 | A NEW SOUNDTRACK FOR LIFE

A NEW SOUNDTRACK FOR LIFE

John 10:10b – “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”.

2 Corinthians 10:5“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Romans 12:1-2 (NKJV)“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Romans 8:5-6 (NIV)“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

Matthew 6:10“Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Colossians 3:2-3“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”

“Most Christians repent enough to get forgiven, but not enough to see the kingdom.” – Bill Johnson

Romans 12:2b“that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

“Renewing your mind means learning to recognize what comes from hell and what comes from heaven, and agreeing with heaven. This is the only way to complete your divine assignment.” – Bill Johnson

“How do we change the soundtrack?” – Jon Acuff

1. Retire your broken soundtracks.

2. Replace them with new soundtracks.

3. Repeat the new ones so often that they become as automatic as the old ones.

What are the building blocks for a new soundtrack for life?

 1. Build with the Word

Nothing compares to the penetrating power of the truth of the Word applied to life.

a. Study

Ephesians 5:26“That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.”

Wash away the old pathways of thought!

b. Declare

“Instead of just using words to describe our lives, we are to use them to change our lives.” – Steve Backlund

Job 22:28“You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways.”

c. Meditate

Joshua 1:8b“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night.”

Psalms 1:2 (NLT)“But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”

2.     Build with Worship

Matthew 6:9b“Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.”

“Fixed mindset vs. growth mindset.” – Heidi Grant

3.     Build with Vulnerability

James 5:16a (NLT) – “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”

I Timothy 4:12a“Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young.”

Four steps to a soundtrack for life (adapted from Steve Backlund):

1. Identify broken soundtracks. – does it lack hope?

2. Give the broken soundtrack language.

3. Find heaven’s soundtrack. – Soundtracks for life carry hope!

4. Repeat the new soundtrack.

Discussion Questions:

1. Does it connect with you to think about your pathways of thought as soundtracks?  Why or why not?

2. Have you, perhaps without realizing it, just accepted the way that you thought about yourself, others or situations?

3. Do you think, overall, more out of a fixed mindset or a growth mindset?

4. Share one soundtrack about yourself that needs to change?

5. Share what you think will help you change that soundtrack the most.
