EVERY BELIEVER HAS THE POWER TO SAY

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 (NKJV) “For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.”

The Nine Gifts/Manifestations of The Holy Spirit

Power Gifts: Gift of Faith, Gift of Healings, Working of Miracles

Revelation Gifts: Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, Discerning of Spirits

Vocal Gifts: Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues, Prophecy

All the gifts/manifestation of the Spirit are for ministering to others, for the profit of all (1 Corinthians 12:7).

Let us look at a basic understanding of the purpose and function of these vocal gifts.

The Vocal Gifts

1. Tongues – When a believer speaks out in the congregation in a language that is not normally known to the congregation.

2. Interpretation of Tongues – A supernatural ability to interpret a language that is not known into a language that is known to the hearer(s).

3. Prophecy – (from the Spirit Filled Life Bible) A divine disclosure on the behalf of the Spirit, an edifying revelation of the Spirit for the moment, a sudden insight of the Spirit, prompting exhortation or comfort.

“Prophecy is hearing the Voice of God and speaking forth His Word to others.” – John Eckhardt

“Prophecy is the supernatural imparted ability to receive communications from Holy Spirit and communicate them to others. These communications reveal the heart, mind, or counsel of God. It is not a skill, aptitude, or talent. Prophecy exceeds what the natural mind can conceive. It is speaking forth words given by Holy Spirit.” – Randy Clarke (from Global Awakening)

“Prophecy is a Divine spoken word that comes to us by revelation. God’s plans and heart is revealed for a person, place, or situation.” – Shawn Bolz

It is a gift to advance the Kingdom of God. It is a giving gift.

It can be forthtelling. Speaking a “now word” to a current situation.

It can be foretelling, which is giving a predictive word for a present or future event.

What does prophecy do?

1 Corinthians 14:3 (NKJV) “But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.”

Edifies, Exhorts, Comforts

Who can prophesy?

All whom God has poured His Spirit out upon.

Acts 2:17 (NKJV) “‘And it shall come to pass in the last days,’ says God, ‘That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams.”

Spirit of Prophecy

This is ground level for prophesying. In an atmosphere where we are worshipping the Lord, the Spirit of Prophecy is available and can begin to manifest itself in the hearts of God’s children. In this situation, any believer that yields themselves to God can prophesy. This is a meeting of the desire of God and the surrender of His children. It is perfect union on display. This in and of itself does not make the believer a prophet. It indicates availability and closeness to God.
