EVERY BELIEVER IS A DWELLING PLACE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1 Corinthians 6:19 – Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

Exodus 25:8 – And let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.

Shakan – to abide, remain, dwell

Why does God want to dwell among His people?

Father God wants to dwell among us and live inside of us because He loves us.

Exodus 25:9 – According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.

Mishkan/Tabernacle – dwelling place, habitation

Shekinah – the abiding Presence and Glory of the Lord

Father God wants to fill His people with His Shekinah Glory!

What holds the Lord back from dwelling among and in people?

God’s solution for the sin problem was to come in the Person of His Son and die upon the cross!

John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 – And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory.

John 1:29 – The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.’

John 1:12 – But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

BELIEVE + RECEIVE = BECOME

When we receive Jesus Christ, He comes to live inside of us by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 3:17 – That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

Dwell – to make Himself at home in your heart, not just a formal visit.

Ephesians 3:17 (NLT) – Then Christ will make His home in your heart as you trust in Him.

We want Jesus to make Himself at home in our hearts.

1. We invite Jesus into our hearts

Revelation 3:20 – Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me.

2. We surrender our lives to Him

Romans 12:1 – I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

3. We open every door to every room in our lives to Jesus Christ

Mark 7:6 – This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.

Are there rooms in our lives that we have never opened to Jesus Christ?

Are there rooms in our lives that we are ashamed to open to Him?

“I gave Jesus the Master Key to every room in my life.” – John Stott
