Harvest: “The Gift of Purpose”

1.     You have purpose!

Instead of asking “Why am I here?” the question really ought to be… “Why does God have me here?” - Reginald Blount

Isaiah 43:21 NIV the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise

Isaiah 43:7 NIV everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made

1 Peter 2:9 NLT But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

The 4 Gs of the Gospel

1.     Good

2.     Guilt

3.     Grace

4.     Gratitude

2.     You continue to have purpose

2 Thessalonians 1:12 NLT Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Job 12:12 Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old.

Psalm 92: 14-15 Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. They will declare, “The LORD is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!”

3.     You have purpose despite mistakes

Ephesians. 2:10 NLT  For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Romans 11:29 NLT For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.

Questions for discussion/reflection

2.     Talk about your personal journey to discovering purpose in life.

3.     What does honor to senior believers in your community look like?  What are some specific acts of honor you have seen toward seniors in the church?

4.     Share about a time when you were tempted to believe that you were somehow disqualified from your purpose?

5.     What do you sense may be the next step in walking out God’s purpose for you?
