SURRENDER TO REVIVAL

What (or who) do we surrender to?

1. Surrender to Jesus

Luke 9:23 (ESV)

And He said to all, “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

2. How do We Surrender to Jesus?

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

Romans 14:17

For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Luke 14:33 (ESV)

So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be My disciple.

John 5:19

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.”

3. What to Surrender

A. Surrender Sin

Revival and repentance work together. Without repentance, revival is impossible, and without continued repentance, revival cannot be sustained.

Psalm 51:1-2 (NLT)

Have mercy on me, O God, because of Your unfailing love. Because of Your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.

Psalm 51:17

The sacrifice You desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

B. Surrender Your Liberties

Matthew 15:8-9

These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.

C. Surrender Your Will

Absolute surrender is sobering, but it remains a requirement for the true Christ follower.

Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)

Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Luke 22:42

Saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

D. Surrender Your Pride

Acts 1:8 (NLT)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be My witnesses, telling people about Me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Discussion Questions:

1. What does surrender look like for you?

2. What’s an area you have struggled to surrender?

3. What’s an area you have surrendered and then taken back over?

4. What is an area of liberty in your life that you might resist laying down in surrender to Jesus?

5. So much of surrender boils down to trust. Why do you think you might be struggling to trust God? Invite the Holy Spirit in to heal those memories/places so that you can be free to fully trust God!

6. What daily practice could you begin to increase your consistency in surrender?
