CARRYING THE KING

Zechariah 9:9 (NKJV)

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Luke 19:42a

If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace!

Colossians 1:20b

Having made peace through the blood of His cross.

Matthew 21:10

And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”

Luke 19:44b

Because you did not know the time of your visitation.

We want to carry the King into our city, our culture, our neighborhood, and our family.

How do we carry the King well?

1. Get Free

Luke 19:29-30

And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, saying, “Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here.”

Luke 19:31

And if anyone asks you, “Why are you loosing it?” thus you shall say to him, “Because the Lord has need of it.”

Luke 19:32-34

So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them. But as they were loosing the colt, the owners said to them, “Why are you loosing the colt?” And they said, “The Lord has need of him.”

Luke 19:35

Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him. And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road.

“God has chosen to work through people.” – Dutch Sheets

We find ourselves tied to shame, regret, trauma from our past, fear, and depression.

Revelation 1:5b (AMP)

To Him who [always] loves us and [has once for all] loosed and freed us [or washed us] from our sins by His own blood (His sacrificial blood).

Tied – bound, imprisoned, put in chains

Loosed – untie, set free, release

LORD, SET ME FREE!

2. Get Loud

Luke 19:37 (NKJV)

Then, as He was drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying, “’Blessed is the King who comes in the Name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Psalm 22:3

But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel.

Luke 19:39-40

And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.”

The Welsh Revival in 1904 started with a young teenage girl standing and saying with tears, “Oh, I love Jesus Christ with all my heart!”

3. Get His Heart

Luke 19:41-42

Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.”

Luke 19:43-44

For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on very side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.

Wept – Heavy sobbing of a soul in agony, wailing, burst into tears.

“He preached the truth boldly with words but displayed compassion clearly with his tears.” – Charles Finney

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Psalm 126:5

Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Where do we get the Father’s heart? At the foot of the cross!

Discussion Questions:

1. Do you see yourself as carrying the King wherever you go? Why or why not?

2. What are some of the areas in your life in which you are “tied up” and hindered in carrying Jesus well?

3. Do people at your workplace and in your neighborhood know that you are a believer in Jesus Christ?

4. Have you ever wept before the Lord for lost people in your family, neighborhood, or city?

5. What is the Holy Spirit saying to you through these Scriptures today?
