DADDY

Do you walk through life as a son or daughter of Father God?

Graham Cooke describes the orphan spirit as “a condition in which some Christians profess outwardly to know God as Father, but experience an internal contradiction to that belief.”

“So, internally people feel a sense of abandonment, loneliness, alienation, and isolation.” – Joseph Mattera

Do I have aspects of the orphan spirit operating in my life concerning:

My Image of God

The orphan spirit serves God to earn the Father’s love. The mature son serves God out of a sense of divine acceptance and favor.

My Need for Approval

The orphan spirit operates out of insecurity and jealousy. The spirit of sonship functions out of love and acceptance.

Ephesians 1:6 – To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

John 17:23b(NLT) – that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

My Relationship with Other People

The orphan spirit is jealous of the success of his brothers. The mature son is committed to the success of his brothers.

Receive the Holy Spirit and embrace the spirit of adoption

“You choose sonship over and over because orphan thinking doesn’t surrender easily, and it often comes back and tries to assert its influence once again.” – Jack Frost

Acts 2:1-4 – On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

John 14:18(NLT) – No, I will not abandon you as orphans – I will come to you.

Galatians 4:5-7(MSG) – You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as His own children because God sent the Spirit of His Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!” Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.

Ungodly Beliefs

I am alone.

No one cares.

I have to take care of myself.

Acts 2:44-45 – And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.

Galatians 4:5(NLT) – God sent Him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that He could adopt us as His very own children.

Romans 8:15 – For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Forgive any who may have contributed to the orphan spirit operating in your life.

Repent of coming into agreement with the orphan spirit.

Break its hold over your life.

Receive the spirit of adoption and all the Holy Spirit has for you.

Ungodly Belief: I will always need to be strong, protect, defend and take care of myself because there is no one else to be responsible for me or care for me.

Godly Belief: God is my source, my strength, and my defender. I choose to look to Him and trust Him to provide for me in whatever way He chooses. I release the responsibility of my life into the hands of the Lord.
